Texas Healthy Community Coordinators
The Live Well Coalition is a collaborative between the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, Texas Healthy Communities, and Taylor County community members in efforts to make our community more healthy. Facilitated by the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District, The Live Well Coalition focuses on promoting active living and healthy eating to reduce the risk of chronic disease in our community. Becoming a Coalition Partner, we take responsibility to promote physical activity and events throughout Abilene, to increase access to exercise for our neighbors.
Our mission is to work together to create a culture of health and wellness that is equitable for all community members.
Texas Healthy Communities
The Texas Healthy Communities (TXHC) is a program that assist community with the assessment of their existing environments, focusing on the implementation of change in local environmental and policy infrastructure by prioritizing in public health practices, resulting the in the reduction of risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases.
Communities are assessed on eight (8) health indicators to determine recognition as a Texas Healthy Community. Environmental indicators include offering physical activity areas, healthy eating options, mother friendly work environments, and evidence-based health curriculum in schools. Policy indicators include a 100% smoke free city smoking ordnance; and EMS system which maintains a rapid response time for cardiac events and treatment of stroke as a medical emergency in the community.
